Sustainable Sanitation - Practical Application (NASPA)
Project description:
Conventional sanitation systems are not always the most ecological and
economic option. This is especially true for remote rural settlements.
The necessity to support sustainable sanitation systems was more and more
recognised during the last years, but due to a lack of practical experience
only rarely applied. With the example of five objects, two rural settlements
in Styria (Unterauersbach and Langegg-Hirtenfeld), a housing estate in
Pöllau (near Gleisdorf), the Christophorus House (office building) in
Stadl Paura and a private home (Oberwindhag, Waldviertel), the practical
performance of new and suggestive options for sustainable sanitation systems
will be investigated and recommendations developed.
Objectives: The main objective of the project is to contribute
to the realisation of sustainable and resource-oriented sanitation systems.
The objectives of the project are:
- Analysis of the current water management und demonstration of the potential of water saving technologies.
- Optimization of greywater- and blackwater reed-bed treatment plants (constructed wetlands).
- Development of optimized guidelines and operation concepts for service water and reed-bed sludge treatment plants.
- Awareness creation and distribution of sustainable sanitation systems through participatory planning.
